Original name: Message to the share: The fight against Malaria in Vietnam.
A case history of a success story is presented. It chronicles the evolution of the Malaria Program in
Vietnam in the post-liberation war era.
A questionnaire provided by the Roll Back Malaria team in Geneva was used to document relevant
technical background information on the Program in a standardized manner and is presented as an
annex. Otherwise, the case history gives a lightly readable account of the key developments in the
Program’s history including its challenges and successes; both process and outcomes are looked at.
Lessons that can be learned are highlighted.
Officers of the Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology (IMPE) in different parts of
the country, as well as program implementation staff were interviewed and documentary records
checked to get the needed chronological overview of the Program’s implementation. Field visits and
discussions with other people familiar with the Program were carried out as needed to round up the
report.
