PhD scholarships

Applications are invited for a number of PhD scholarships in the Department of Political Science, available from 15st of  March  2008.

Ph.D. students follow the PhD-programme in the Department of Political Science. This programme is closely connected to the Department?s research activities, which are concentrated in three main areas: Comparative Politics; International Politics; and Public Administration. Within these main areas the research plans for the next years will particularly focus on the following subjects: a) The Changing Political Order in Denmark: State, Democracy, and Identity, b) European Security and Integration, c) The Public Sector in Transition; and d) The Politics of Europeanization and the Europeanization of Politics. Candidates with research interests within these three main areas, and in particular, those who wish to write their theses in one of the focus subjects, are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must have successfully completed a master?s degree in social sciences by the time they begin their PhD studies.  In order to be awarded a PhD scholarship, the applicant has to enrol as a PhD student in "political science", cf. the rules in the Ministerial Order on the PhD Course of Study and on the PhD Degree No 114, March 8, 2002.  Four copies of the application should be submitted (only three copies of master?s dissertations are required). Applications must include a thesis proposal. Applications are welcome from all qualified applicants regardless of age, gender, race, religion or ethnic background.

PhD-scholarships have a durations of 3 years and will be paid in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).  During those three years, the PhD student will be required to undertake teaching and other related duties, of up to 840 hours, for which there is no additional payment.

An assessment committee will evaluate the applications. The applicants will be notified of the composition of the committee. When the assessment committee has finished its evaluation, each applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns her or him.
